The Acknowledgements are a dynamic resource.  Most of the speculation about female sexuality in this novel was provided by Dr. R. Mansfield.  Researching the sources has rarely been straightforward and often downright challenging.  Dr. Mansfield’s synthesis is a jigsaw assembled from widely collected pieces.  I have cited the earliest reference I could find to a particular opinion or survey result, but that might not be the original source.
